Oakland is a dense mixed use neighborhood in Pittsburgh that is the hub of higher education and medical research for the region and home to a broad range of residents and businesses. Studio fSP, in partnership with Pfaffmann + Associates, led a community planning process for the Oakland Planning and Development Corporation in consultation with a broad range of residents and stakeholders. The plan made recommendations for housing, transportation, institutional development, open space and community capacity building. Diversifying housing options and integrating new transit and bicycle infrastructure were a key foci of the plan. The project employed an extensive public process including neighborhood walking tours, multiple public design workshops and meetings, and a pop-up storefront studio in the neighborhood.
