Hill District Greenprint

The Hill District Greenprint is both a landscape based urban design framework and a set of specific landscape interventions for Pittsburgh’s Hill District. It reimagines the Hill as a village surrounded by woods as a means of reconnecting the neighborhood to its ecological context and repositioning the community after severe disinvestment and depopulation.
The project proposes a series of public space interventions to organize and beautify the neighborhood by reinforcing pedestrian connections, creating new plazas, gardens and trails and addressing stormwater management issues. The project is intended to strengthen the Hill’s relationship to the larger social and ecological context repositioning it for the 21st Century. PPC is working to advance key landscape projects from the plan, and the Greenprint has been incorporated into the Hill District Master Plan.
