PAAC Light Rail Transit Station Design Guidelines

Team: CDM Smith w/ Studio for Spatial Practice

Client: Port Authority of Allegheny County

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Date : 2017 - 2018

In collaboration with CDM Smith & Port Authority of Allegheny County, SfSP created design guidelines for Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations for internal use by various departments of the PAAC - with the goals to improve the PAAC’s image, increase ridership and revenue, and create opportunities for Transit Oriented Development.

Applying the design principles create a cohesive, consistent design language for the LRT fixed guideway, whether it be repair, replacement, upgrade, or design of a new station. By standardizing certain elements and including best practices for repairing or replacing those elements, these guidelines contain efficiencies for maintenance, materials, and establish design goals for all stations.
