Superior Motors is a new restaurant and culinary training center led by award-winning chef Kevin Sousa in Braddock, Pennsylvania. The restaurant is located at the former site of one of the first indoor Chevrolet dealerships in the country, and is across the street from Edgar Thomson Works, the Pittsburgh Region’s last remaining steel mill. The restaurant’s main dining room features site-cast concrete seating areas inset with wood. The centerpiece of the restaurant is the live-fire hardwood grill, which creates a focal point and transition between the bar and the open kitchen. The restaurant was designed to be a unique destination, celebrating materials native to the site – concrete, brick and steel – and introducing new materials – wood, glass, fiberglass and fire – into the space in a way that celebrates their raw materiality.

Superior Motors locally sources the majority of its produce and animals, taking advantage of a partnership with Grow Pittsburgh and Braddock Farms, as well as a commercial, rooftop greenhouse with an attached 4,000 SF raised-bed garden. On-site, there is also an award-winning apiary, a community bread oven and housing for use by culinary, farming and educational interns and externs. The project was funded by over 2000 individual supporters through a Kickstarter grant.

We create a broad range of products including standard architectural documents, urban design plans, guidelines, graphics and models, GIS analyses, and a variety of project communication tools. Our office has also created community identity graphics, banners and signage. Some of our projects include, or function as, public art installations and exhibitions.
